Palimpseste

In March, the day after a concert in Nice, as I was marveling once again at the eternal springtime color of this delightful region, a precious friend, a lover of guitar and beautiful things, invites me to listen to "a masterpiece"... His opinion is dear to me and his enthusiasm compelling, hence it is infused with a delicious curiosity that I follow him home, a few kilometers from Saint-Paul-de-Vence, where everything is appealing, to discover this "rare" piece of music. I sit in his kitchen; he takes his guitar and plays for me Palimpseste. I am instantaneously captured by this extraordinary music.

The richness is unique: it is simultaneously complex, universal and timeless. In it, I rediscover the power of the remarkable sonatas of the beginning of the twentieth century that I so enjoyed sight-reading in my adolescence: Ponce, José, Tedesco, Rodrigo... I am caught from the first note to the last, unnerved; my precious friend was right, this piece is a treasure, and, like him, I believe that it will travel through the ages, perhaps through the centuries, that it has its rightful place in the great repertoire of the classical guitar. This precious friend is Laurent Blanquart, and I thank him from the bottom of my heart for revealing to me this sumptuous music by Thierry Muller. I am honored that it is introducing my collection at Henry Lemoine, and I am eager only for one thing: to listen to you play this masterpiece across the world.
